                                                    Ride/Camp Description

    VENUE:

Landsborough Community Recreation Reserve, accessed off Burke or McKinlay Streets, Landsborough. Participants may arrive at the venue from midday Friday. You may choose to stay for all or as many days as time allows, but you will have to nominate so the Club can organize catering and rides.

    FACILITIES:

Camping is permitted around the reserve or on the adjacent paddock (over a bridge from reserve). There is ample room with flat, well grassed sites, and good access roads. There is a large shed where we will socialize, and showers and toilet facilities. The club will also provide additional portable toilets close the shed. The shed will provide great shelter, facilities for tea and coffee, music etc., and will be open 24/7. A communal camp fire will be established here, (the Club is purchasing firewood), no individual camp fires are permitted. There is ample water for humans and horses. There is no communal paddock so you will need to provide portable yards, electric taped yards preferred. A trailer will be available to collect horse manure, please bring a chaff bag for manure to assist with collection. Arrangements have been made for locals to collect all manure bags. The area abounds with wineries and places of interest to visit, the townships of Stawell, Ararat and Avoca within easy travelling distance.

    RIDES:

We will be riding in the beautiful Pyrenees Ranges over tracks used by the 2002 Tom Quilty Gold Cup, but shortened and modified to suit our needs, (and make it easier). Rides will be held on all days, and will vary from day rides with saddlebag lunch, to morning and afternoon rides with lunch at the venue. This is gold mining country, at times hard and rough underfoot, and tracks vary from hilly to flat/undulating. Horses will require a reasonable degree of fitness and should be adequately shod or at least booted up if barefoot. There will be a horseless muster prior to each ride.

    Participation Fee:

The cost for the weekend is $35 per person, or $50 per family. This covers the hire of the venue, BBQ dinner on Sunday, toilet hire, 24/7 tea and coffee, camp fire wood provided, and all ride fees. Camp fees should be paid by direct deposit, or electronic funds transfer into the Club’s Account with the Bendigo Bank, BSB:633-000, Account Number 155 873 003, please quote your name and the reference “Lands Camp”.

    Nominations:

Rider numbers will be restricted to a maximum of 29 due to limitations imposed by the Dept. DELWP and Parks Victoria, (non-riding attendees are not included), so please nominate early to assist planning. Some non-club ATHRA members have been invited and first to nominate will have priority. Nominations should be lodged by the 21st October 2017. We ask that you ring or email nominations to Alan Salter at alg_salter@bigpond.com (please do not nominate on Facebook as this is not monitored regularly and you may risk missing a spot.

    Day Members:

Day Members may only participate by arrangement with Club Secretary Alan Salter, and contact should be made prior to taking out online Day Membership. (Due to rider number limit).

If permitted, Day Members must register online at www.athra.com.au , (pay the $35 ATHRA fee for each day (max 2 days) during the online process and $35-00 camp fee on the day). Day Members should contact Alan Salter prior to the ride day, and please bring printout of your Day Membership for production to Club. A club “sponsor rider” will be appointed to accompany all Day Members on their ride day.

    ITINERARY:

A casual ride will be arranged on Friday afternoon for those interested.

Saturday’s Ride out will be at 10 am, preceded by a horseless muster at 9.30 am. It is yet to be decided if this ride will be a saddle bag lunch, or a return to camp for lunch, followed by a second leg in the afternoon. The evening meal (for those who wish to participate) will be at the Moonambell Pub a short 12-minute drive away. The meal here is excellent and we need to book, so please advise of your interest when nominating. A BBQ will be available for those who choose to remain in camp for dinner. We will socialize around the communal camp fire when we return to camp.

Sunday’s Ride out will be at 10 am, preceded by the pre-ride briefing at 9.30 am. The Club anticipate providing a BBQ lunch on track, but you will need to provide your own drinks. The Club will host a BBQ dinner at the camp venue on Sunday evening.

Monday’s Ride out is planned for about 1pm, with a horseless muster/briefing about 12.30pm. Monday evening members can do their own thing, prepare their own meal, (BBQ available for cooking), visit the local pub across the road for dinner, or perhaps try another at the Moonambell Pub.

Tuesday: Pack up day, those wishing to can stay a little longer, but any extended stay after Tuesday will not be regarded as part of the ATHRA sanctioned event. If there is sufficient interest a morning ride can be organised before lunch and packing up.
