The South West Capes Bridle Trails Association was formed in 2014 to campaign for designated Bridle and Multi-Use Trails in the Busselton and Augusta-Margaret River Shires.
The Augusta-Margaret River Shire went through an extensive consultation and development process and has now adopted a Bridle Trails Masterplan. Through this process a group of local riders decided to form an Association so the equestrian community in the whole capes region can present a unified voice calling for safe and suitable places to horse ride. One of the Association’s top priorities will be to request that the Busselton Shire will follow suit and develop a Bridle Trails Masterplan for its area as well.
Our initial project for 2015 is to create a designated trail in the surrounds of the Margaret River Pony Club, which has been made possible through AMR Shire funding. Inclusion of horses within the proposed Rails for Trails network in both Shires is also on our agenda.
In April 2016 a grant from Lotterywest for $15,000 was received, to instigate a Master Plan for the Busselton area. This Masterplan has now been completed and the club looks forward to liaising with the City of Busselton, and the various relevant government departments, the community and other horse riding clubs, to pursue and promote the sport of trail riding in the South West, on designated and/or shared trails.
